The Bible and Prosperity…
Honor the LORD with your substance and with the first fruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine. Proverbs 3:9-10

The Bible and Prosperity…
“For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you. When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11-13

The Bible and Prosperity…
“As for those who in the present age are rich, command them not to be haughty, or to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but rather on God who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, generous, and ready to share, thus storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of the life that really is life.” 1 Timothy 6:17-19

How Christianity can Transform Business
My good friend Peter Heslam of the University of Cambridge in the UK gave a great interview to the Center for Integrity in Business of the Seattle Pacific University. In it, he makes the point that business is the essential part of fighting poverty because “one of business’ most fundamental contributions to society is the creation of wealth. Indeed, it is the only sphere of society that generates wealth. All other spheres rely on that wealth to operate — families, schools, hospitals, voluntary associations, faith communities, and governments all need funding. And if you trace that funding back to its origins, you end up in with commercial exchange of one sort or another.” One of Peter’s inspirations comes from “John Stott, a leading British pastor and biblical scholar, has helped a generation of evangelicals around the world to see this. He used to say ‘If Jesus Christ is not Lord of all, he is not Lord at all’. He founded the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity (LICC) to reflect this truth and to engage in particular with the kind of issues that confront ‘lay’ people in their ordinary working lives.” Check out Peter’s website and blog at Transforming Business. The Bible and Prosperity…
From this past Sunday’s Gospel: Jesus said to his disciples: “No one can serve two masters. He will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they? Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span? Why are you anxious about clothes? Learn from the way the wild flowers grow. They do not work or spin. But I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was clothed like one of them. If God so clothes the grass of the field, which grows today and is thrown into the oven tomorrow, will he not much more provide for you, O you of little faith? So do not worry and say, ‘What are we to… Read more
